Tanning. An activity I have had a love/hate relationship with my entire life. The accumulation of sweat on my body and the feeling of being cooked from the outside in is just so unsettling to me. As a Fashion and Beauty blogger I spend a decent amount of time exploring different trends, as well as the safest ways to test them, so I decided to dig my toes a little into the world of spray tanning.
I have explored many different types of self tanners. Mousses, lotions, you name it. Its an expensive, maybe even a silly habit, but I like the look of it, and try to avoid unnecessary time in the sun. Spray tanning is something I’ve always wanted to explore as a beauty geek, and last week the Ladies at Schulz Makeup & Beauty Studio were so kind so Guide me through this process.
Owner & Lead Makeup Artist/Stylist Jennifer Schulz has the most beautiful Tanning & Makeup Studio in Downtown Toronto. The Decor is very feminine and cozy, and the staff is welcoming and were down to answer any questions we had. For some reason, I was actually pretty scared to receive my first spray tan. Avery had done this before and she assured me I would not look like an Oompa Loompa, and the pictures and reviews on Schulz Beauty’s Instagram were also reassuring.
The Tanning Studio itself was very much like a massage room. Dimly lit, Pleasant aroma, calming colours. Jennifer allowed Avery and I to be in the same room for the entire appointment, which was probably a mistake because we always distract each other and make stupid jokes. Jenn was super nice though, and wasn’t to weirded out 😉 As she guided me through the different poses, I asked her questions like “how long will this last?” and “is there anything I have to do to avoid streaking?”. Wondering the answer to these questions? Well I am in my second week with this spray tan, I’ve showered almost every day (avoiding too much exfoliating), and I’m still rocking my natural-looking glow !
The process itself was very fast, maybe 10-15 minutes, and actually kind of pleasant! It felt like a cool mist covering my entire body, which was nice because this summer’s heat has been unforgivable. There was a bronzer mixed in with the formula to allow for a more even application, and Jennifer told me this would wash off when I took a shower in 6-8 hours. When I looked in the mirror I was both shocked and ecstatic at how natural it had tuned out, and Avery and I, as Beyonce would say, were “feeling ourselves”.
After our spray tans, we got a tour of the studio, and I instantly fell in love with the place. There is this Kardashian-esque Glam room where all Makeup & Esthetician services are done, and I wanted so badly to get my glow on right there and then. Needless to say, Avery and I will be back for more! We are thinking something eyelash or eyebrow related, but check out the list of services and let us know what you think!
